  • Have a cap and/or gown from another Magruder graduate?  Just purchase the 2025 tassel ($15)
  • Mortarboard (caps) should be worn parallel to the floor with the tassel on the front-left
  • Jewelry may not be worn outside of the academic robe
  • Wear dressy outfit - this is a formal occasion!
  • Absolutely NO ALTERATIONS to gown
  • Caps can be decorated
    • Cap Decorating General Guidelines:
      • Decorations must be flat on the surface of the cap. 3-D creations that “pop up” or hang down are prohibited.
      • Graduation caps will be reviewed and approved in advance of the ceremony, and monitored at the ceremony.
      • Tassel must be present on the cap and it may not be altered in any way.
      • If you have any questions about any intended information/images that you feel might be questionable, be sure to talk to an administrator before graduation. If you think your idea might be inappropriate, it probably is!
      • We highly suggest you trace your cap onto cardboard and decorate the cardboard so that, if you make a mistake, you can start over with a new piece of cardboard.
      • Please be sure to include a small hole for the tassel. After you decorate it, stick it to your cap with double-sided tape or Velcro tape. We will not furnish new caps if you mess yours up decorating. Please be sure before you decorate! All caps will be reviewed prior to the graduation ceremony.
    • Caps MAY:

      • Include graduation year
      • Recognize the university or college you will be attending or place of employment
      • Recognize the branch of the military you will be joining
      • Recognize high school activities (sports, club, or co-curricular activities)
      • Thank a parent, grandparent, family member, teacher, friend
    • Caps MAY NOT include:

      • Anything that makes noise (bells, whistles, horns, etc.)
      • Advertisements, symbols, abbreviations, initials, words, slogans, or pictures that are or refer to drug, gang, alcohol, weapons or sexual content
      • Logos, words, sayings or any action of hate or bias, or depict discriminatory symbols
      • Anything obscene, profane, vulgar, or lewd.
      • Numbers other than the graduation year.
      • Anything that threatens the safety and welfare of any person.
